CAN'T GET ANY FULLER!

You've tried it at the all you can eat buffet. Maybe just one more bite, you think. But you can't. You might get sick. You feel like you might burst.

You do it with trash bags. If I can just push it down, maybe I can get some more garbage in. But you better not. The bag is already bulging, and it might burst.

Paul reminds us that all the fulness of God is in Christ Jesus. There is no room for any more. How Jesus can be fully God and fully man is a mystery, to be sure. But Scripture portrays both and, if Scripture doesn't contradict itself, we must hold both ideas in tension.

Surely, Jesus was limited in what he could do while he was in flesh. He could only be in one place at a time. He could, and did, experience all human emotion and temptation. He died. All without compromising his God-ness.

But he could tell Philip "He who has seen me has seen the Father." He could accept Thomas' confession of "My Lord and my God!" He could be described as the exact representation of his being.

The Colosssians were in danger of falling for a philosophy that offered "more". Exactly what, I am not sure. But if Jesus is God, and God's fulness is there, how can we have anything more complete?
