Have you ever thought of how revolutionary the idea of "church" is? I don't mean church as the word is used today; I mean the Biblical idea of church.
We forget that the church isn't made up of "nice" people. Christians are those who have been transferred from the kingdom of darkness (Colossians 1:13). We are those who spent out lives "hating, and hating one another" (Titus 3:3). We are those who are by nature "objects of wrath" (Ephesians 2:3).
We forget that we have been reconciled to the God who rebelled against, who accepted our surrender when we laid down our traitorous ways. HE reconciled us; we didn't demand terms--we accepted them.
We forget that, once reconciled to God, we can live in peace with others. We do not need to lives lives of anger, jealousy, covetousness, and the like. We can desire to live holy and godly lives.
We forget that our lives in Christ are on display to the great cloud of witnesses (Hebrews 12:1), as well as the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms (Ephesians 3:10).
Family, let us never forget these things. We have nothing to boast about, and let us never let routine, ritual, and religion mark our gatherings together. What we do and who we are are significant indeed!
