Yes, it's aggravating--the uncertainties and changes. When will the economy reopen? What about the closed restaurants and laid off workers? What employers will survive the shutdowns? Are we disobeying governmental orders when we gather on Sunday mornings with 11 to 13 present?
If nothing else, there are some good things coming out of all this. First, we are learning how much we can really do without. Yes, I love going out to eat, but is it a necessity?
Second, we are "forced" to rely on God throughout all this. No, of course, we don't have to. But having shutdowns and quarantines means being stuck at home, and there's only so much you can watch and read. Yes, you may get unemployment money or you may have savings, but where can you go to spend it?
Third, even with online church services being offered, you miss one of the main reasons we are to gather. It's not worship. It's not prayer. It's not the ministry of the word. It's fellowship (if it's practiced properly). The sense of belonging to others and being part of something bigger than ourselves, sharing lives and common tasks. We end up missing simple things like hugs and handshakes because we don't want to pass on something, and we must practice "social distancing."
This too shall pass. When it does, will we remember these things? Will we start to cherish the things we've missed, or will we lose that with the passing of time and as we get back into our routines?
And finally, Happy Resurrection Day!
