PRE-EXISTENCE?

All things have a beginning, right? Right? After all, I am here, but I didn't always exist. I am a child of my parents, who also didn't always exist. Each one of us, everything in creation, had a beginning. Except the One who exists outside of creation.

I remember teaching a children's church class years ago, and one of the kids asked, "Who created God?" That really is a deep question when you think about it. Has God always existed? If he didn't someone or something had to make him.

The claim in John's gospel is that "he [Jesus] was with God in the beginning" and although he was with God, he was also God. Jesus himself knew this for he said "you loved me before the creation of the world" and was waiting to receive "the glory I had with you before the world began" (John 1:1-2, 17:5,17:24).

Humanly hard to conceive, but philosophically and scientificially possible! The point is, either John has a vivid imagination, or he is lying, or he is confused, or he is telling the truth. No other religious leader has had such claims made about him or made such claims about himself. Truly, Jesus is one of a kind, unique.
