THE UNIQUENESS OF JESUS

Colossians 1:15-20 was the text we unpacked a bit in Sunday school yesterday. Taking the time to read it a phrase at a time and seeing how Jesus is described--well, it's evident that there can be no one else like Jesus.
*the image of God--he who has seen me has seen the Father
*firstborn over all creation--he was here when nothing was here
*creator--things physical and spiritual
*pre-existent--he was with God at the beginning
*sustainer--he holds everything together
*head of the church--authority of his people
*firstborn from the dead--guarantees that all will be resurrected
*supremacy--he is above all and greater than all
*fulness--everything God is, Jesus is
*reconciler--all of creation restored to a right relationship
*his atoning death--though God, he shed his blood as perfect Man
I may write about each of these in the coming days, but isn't this fascinating? We become so familiar with what the Scripture teaches that we lose the sense of wonder, that we forget how unique Jesus really is. If what Paul says about Jesus is true, then there can be no one else like him--because no one else can do everything he has done, and no one can be who he is claimed to be.
