My fault, really. As I write, it's 1:22 am. It was a long day at work and, knowing that the condo in which I was working might not have power, I was going to sweat--so I ordered a large iced coffee from Dunkin' (where else would anyone order coffeee?). It was also Friday--our pizza night--and, knowing it would be a while until my bride came home with supper, i figured that I could have a bit more coffee (not quite two cups of New England blend chocolate cappucino). Sleepy enough, I went upstairs, read a bit, and off to dreamland (after a bout with leg cramps).
Until 1:00, anyway. The dreams actually made sense (unusual for me), but, awaking at 1:00, I have found it impossible to go back to sleep. When I finish this, I'll try again. But the point of this blog is nothing new--one is free to choose, but one is not free from the consequences of the choice.
It's true of drinking coffee late (or too much). It's true of sinful choices too. Yes, we have the opportunity to repent (most times, anyway), and God will be gracious to forgive. And a few times, he may restore what the locusts have eaten (Joel 2). But normally, the consequences follow and remain long after the pleasure of the sin has passed.
David and Bathsheba. Moses with his anger. Saul with his justification. You with your fill in the blank. We will learn one way or the other--from the lives of those written about in Scripture ala 1 Corinthians 10, or from our own experiences. Dear ones, let us be careful with what we choose to do. Let us not test our God, as his law of sowing and reaping remain.
